BUYER BEWARE!
Not all piano dealers are reputable like Piano Showcase, Inc.
BEWARE OF:
GOING OUT OF BUSINESS DECEPTIONS.
The retail industry knows this is a very strong promotion. Unfortunately , dishonest dealers will use this as a ploy, then reopen under a different corporation, name, location, etc. In this way, they are under no obligation to fulfill warranties or other promises made to the consumer. Often times, consumers get caught up in this 3 ring circus put on by hired guns (high pressure sales pros brought in just for the promotion) who specialize in these going out of business ploys. Unaware consumers THINK they must be getting a great value. In actuality, they are over paying! The deception of limited inventory is false. Usually, there are truckloads of pianos waiting to replace what has been sold.

College, Armory, Outside Sales Event Promotions
According
to "The Piano Book" by Larry Fine during the past few years there
has been a great increase in the number of large-scale piano events,
variously called "armory sales" or named after a local concert festival.
Typically, nearly new pianos on loan or lease to the festival or university
are sold off, presumably at a "discount", and hundreds of brand new
ones are tucked in by the manufacturer especially for the occasion.

Sometimes a
team of professional high-pressure salespeople is hired to stage the
event.
The advantage to shopping an event is that the selection may be much
greater than you will ever find at your local dealer, which is handy
if you've been looking for some unusual furniture style or finish
(although most of the pianos may be in crates, with only samples available
to be seen). Also, sometimes you can really get a good deal on a piano
that is only one or two years old, or even a new one. The disadvantages
are that often the
bargains will be no bargains at all
despite the claims of 30 percent off; "the pianos brought in from
the factory will probably have received little or no preparation before
being delivered to your home (and as I said, may be crated so you
can't try them out), and the pressure to buy "today" will likely be
enormous. Dealers that don't participate in these mega-sales can often
offer you a better deal and virtually always, a more pleasant shopping
experience.
